We’ve recently installed air conditioning at the pub with wall mounted units at the front and back. These units will be sufficient to cool the pub on the increasingly frequent days air con is required. It will allow us to close the rear doors keep customers cool and prevent noise from disturbing our neighbours. In winter the air con units can heat our spaces. So everyone will benefit from being more comfortable. Whilst we’ve chosen high quality energy efficient units we are exploring getting funding to install solar panels on our roof to generate electricity and off-set the extra energy demands.

We’ve also elevated and cleaned our polycarbonate garden roof to prevent ponding and added gutters to collect the rain water. Our poly roof was installed largely as a temporary measure to increase the capacity of the pub on rainy days. Ideally we’d like to install retractable awnings but the cost is a bit beyond us at the moment.

With Andy, our tenant, we’ve also carried out a fire safety audit, upgraded fire protection and now have a better strategy in place should there be an emergency.

The pub often needs painting. We made a start painting the front benches before we had to pause due to rain, but aim to complete these soon. Mark has been managing a growing number of internal odd jobs, so if you have any time to assist, please get in touch to volunteer by emailing admin@antwerparms.co.uk
